The ODC Theatre is proud to present “Heavenly Sounds“, a solo exhibition of ink and color paintings on paper by noted Chinese Artist Jiang Weiling

Jiang Weling was born in Xinjiang and had lived there for 50 years before moving to Beijing in 2004. China’s largest province, Xinjiang is the homeland of the Muslim Uyghurs and many other minority ethnic groups, as well as Han Chinese. As part of the route of the historic Silk Road, the region is known for the mix of diverse cultures of Central Asia and the Middle East, and for great sceneries ranging from snowy mountains to deserts. It is also a fast-changing region where ancient and modern cultures contrast with each other in surprising ways. Jiang Weiling is inspired by Xinjiang’s rich cultural and artistic heritage, and created a unique body of works through her sustained practice over the decades. Jiang’s distinctive personal painting style blends influences from ancient Qiuci Murals and Dunhuang Buddhist art, mysterious Tibetan folk art, as well as elements of Western modern art. To create a unique sensibility of color and texture in her paintings, she has developed innovative processes combining meticulous brush lines with layers of color and mediums applied with non-traditional tools. The visual flow and rhythm lend her paintings an almost musical quality.
